Working from home and staying indoors has definitely taken a toll on me. Don’t get me wrong-I enjoy working from home very much. However, what I’ve realized is that I’m a lot less active than I was when I was still commuting into the office. Going into the office means walking to the subway, taking the stairs, and navigating through a huge building until I reach my floor. I did my best to perform this task briskly so that I could get my heart rate up a bit. But now, all of that activity has decreased drastically.

Getting a puppy has helped. I typically take Bosco for walks, usually around 20 minutes long, on a daily basis (normally in the afternoon). Sometimes, I would even take him for a walk in the morning before starting work as well. Now that the colder weather is setting in, I haven’t taken him out at all. Not because I don’t want to; I’m absolutely ok with throwing on my coat, boots, a hat and heading out. However, it’s much too cold for Bosco. We bought him a brand-new coat and some boots so that we could still take him out for walks. He isn’t loving it at all. When we put a coat on him, he turns into a complete statue. He freezes in place and won’t move. It will take some time and diligence on my end to get him used to wearing his coat and boots, because I definitely want to be able to continue taking him out for our walks. I’d love to see how he reacts to the snow.

Anyhow, in the meantime, I’ve become much more sedentary, and this is not something I’m proud of. Not unlike any other day, I was browsing through Instagram when something caught my eye. An ad for P.Volve, an exercise program, appeared on my screen. Intrigued, I clicked on the link so that I could learn more.

When I reviewed the website, what immediately caught my eye was the fact that this workout program is high intensity, but low impact. I used to go to faithfully go to boot camp three times a week. My instructor was very kind and always provided me with modifications because I wasn’t able to jump around like everyone else. But P.Volve seemed to be a workout centred around being incredibly beneficial while remaining kind to the joints. As someone with lupus, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, etc., this seemed like a perfect solution.

I waited a few weeks before purchasing. The holiday season was just around the corner, and I felt bad about spending a bunch of money on myself. But at the same time, I knew that this would be an investment in myself and my health. So, I decided to take the plunge and place an order.

There are four different equipment kits to choose from:

·      Starter Kit

·      Signature Kit

·      Ultimate Kit

·      Total Transformation Kit

I decided to go with the ultimate kit as it came with a bunch of equipment that I knew would be useful (this kit does not come with the p3 ball, which I ended up getting separately).

P.Volve uses a subscription model where you are giving access to all of their workouts. I purchased a six-month membership; however, you can get a one, three, six- or twelve-month membership. The cost of each membership depends on how many months you decide to buy. For example, if you buy a one-month membership, it would cost 19.99. However, if you buy a three-month membership, the total cost equates to 17.99 a month.

Now that I’ve received my equipment, I’m excited to give it a try. I think doing it for 30 days and reporting back will give a good idea into how my work out routine is going, and whether or not I think it’s a great option for people with joint pain issues.

I do want to preface this by saying that Christmas Eve is quickly approaching, and I do plan on eating buttery crab legs and shrimp of the breaded variety. There will also be plenty of butter-ladened oatmeal cookies to be consumed. So, let’s be sure we take that into consideration when I’m providing my updates.

As usual, always speak to your doctor before performing any exercise routine to make sure that it’s suitable for you and your unique needs.

Wish me luck!
