Lupus and Skin Care

One of the many downsides of lupus is the skin manifestations. I’ve gone through stages of acne that were so bad that I didn’t even want to leave the house. There was no amount of makeup that could mask my uneven, bumpy skin. I didn’t want to wear makeup anyway, as I feared that it would make my inflamed skin even worse.

Several years ago, a close friend of mine named Sarah moved to California with her husband. Having never been there before, Sarah invited me down to visit.

While sitting in her living room chatting, I noticed a  book on her coffee table. When I inquired further,  Sarah told me that it was a beauty book by Paula Begoun, a makeup and skincare specialist.

I still hadn’t had the opportunity to unpack, so I went to my room to do so. Or so I thought. An hour later, I hadn’t even opened my luggage. I was sitting on the edge of the bed, reading this book.

This book opened my eyes to the fact that we’re conditioned to spend copious amounts of money on skincare products because we believe they have better ingredients. I learned that this isn’t the case.

All of this valuable information is now on the Beautypedia website.

Paula Begoun was someone who had a skincare line of her own. However, in this book, she also recommends products that anyone can find at their local drugstore. I decided to order some of her products right then and there, and would hopefully have them waiting for me at home by the time I returned home from my trip.

After my trip to California was complete, I flew to England to visit my aunt for a few days. When I got home, as expected, my products were waiting for me.

The Paula’s Choice website has several skin care products to cater to different skin types. I have oily skin, so I purchased a collection of products based on that.

The products I purchased included a cleanser, toner, BHA exfoliant, sunscreen, and face mask. I wondered if I had overdone it and if I would stick to a skincare routine that had so many products in it. At this point, however, I was willing to give it a try for the sake of my poor skin.

What’s important to remember for any skincare routine is that results don’t happen overnight. I was diligent and stuck to the 4-step method for eight weeks. The results spoke for themselves.

Aside from an occasional hormonal bump, my skin was completely clear. I had no new breakouts, and my skin was looking smoother than it has looked for a long while. I still had some scarring from past acne, but again, those kinds of improvements take time. That was back in 2013. I have been a loyal and unwavering customer of Paula’s Choice ever since.

When I’m perusing social media sites, I often come across people asking what they should do for their acne-prone skin. I always jump in and recommend Paula’s Choice. This line has excellent reviews, and I can speak from experience that it worked wonders for my skin.

If you have issues with acne, dry skin, oily skin, or want to try a skincare line that you can rely on, I suggest that you head over to the Paula’s Choice website ASAP and give it a go.
