Senior Learning Coordinator-6 months later

A few months ago, I blog-gushed over a new role I had secured. Well, it has been 6 months. After 6 months, I’m pretty sure I have a solid opinion on this role and where I go from here.

The role? LOVE IT. There’s never a dull moment, as I wear many hats in this position. I do program management, records management, business recovery planning, coordination of training programs (of course..!) and a few projects in between. This mix of responsibilities are awesome, as I am exposed to a lot of things that I’ve yet to experience in my career.

No matter how ‘good’ a job is, you’ll never be 100% comfortable or happy if you don’t connect with your coworkers. In my case, my coworkers couldn’t be nicer. My team members have really taught me the meaning of ‘a team’, as they really and truly operate in that manner. If you have to call in sick? No problem-someone on the team will step in and make sure you’re covered. Aside from that, everyone is just so pleasant, friendly, and attentive.

Something that I really value is the ability to work from home from time to time. This role has a lot more flexibility to do this versus my precious role. As someone with lupus, the act of getting out of bed, brushing my teeth, taking a shower, etc. can be a lot. Being able to sleep in a bit and do your job from home makes a huge difference.

One thing that I kinda struggled with was taking the laptop back and forth on the bus/subway. I spoke to my manager about this…and he acted immediately. He put in a request to enable me to mirror my work laptop on my personal laptop so that I could just work from home on my own computer instead of bringing my work laptop home. He also helped me with the process of submitting an accommodation request for a lighter laptop. All of this took place last week, so I’m still waiting for the virtual laptop program to be set up. The point is…that’s awesome.
